Recent snowfall much appreciated at Duck Mountain ski hill

Recent snowfall has made everyone involved with the Duck Mountain ski hill much happier than they were at the season opening.

Recent snowfall has made everyone involved with the Duck Mountain ski hill much happier than they were at the season opening.

Although scheduled to open on Boxing Day, the lack of a sufficient snowfall had delayed the opening to December 31, Craig Brock, manager, said last week. “We’ve only been able to open on three days this season.”

The hill opened with a four-inch base and with 14 of the 22 runs useable, he said. The green T-bar lift and the bunny bill were operational, but not the red T-bar lift or the tube run.

“But this weekend looks as though it will be nice,” he said on Thursday, explaining that the hill is only open during the season on weekends and holidays and for special user-group bookings during the week.

“We’ll be starting our Little Ducks program on Sunday,” he said. The program is an introduction to skiing aimed at children. People may register as they arrive Sunday morning.

Because of the late opening Brock said that everyone at the hill is still struggling to get up to speed.

“But we have great hopes for the rest of the season.”

For up-to-date information on the ski hill, Brock recommends people visit the skitheduck.com website or follow the ski hill on Facebook.
