Recreation director urges district residents to complete short survey on physical activity

Kamsack’s recreation director and representatives of Saskatchewan in motion and Parkland Valley Sport, Culture and Recreation would appreciate Kamsack and district residents taking a couple minutes to complete an online survey regarding the community

Kamsack’s recreation director and representatives of Saskatchewan in motion and Parkland Valley Sport, Culture and Recreation would appreciate Kamsack and district residents taking a couple minutes to complete an online survey regarding the community’s facilities for physical activity.

The survey, which involves 15 easy-to-answer questions, will provide valuable feedback, Kev Sumner, Kamsack’s recreation director, said last week. “This is everyone’s opportunity to voice his or her opinion on the opportunities there are for physical activity in the community.”

To fill out the survey one needs only go to www.surveymonkey.com/r/kamsack. The tabulation will take place on February 8.

“Your community is seeking your input on how to increase physical activity in your community,” the survey reads. “Your community is looking for ways to encourage more families, children and youth to be more physically active, more often.

“Your responses to this short questionnaire will assist in future planning of physical activity strategies for your community,” it reads.

The survey is a further step in an initiative made by Kamsack’s recreation department, Saskatchewan in motion and Parkland Valley Sport, Culture and Recreation which had begun in December with community meetings with Kacie Loshka of Saskatchewan in motion and Chelsey Johnson of Parkland Valley Sport, Culture and Recreation.

The two women said their objective was to get more kids more active more often and one way was to develop a community profile over two years that would build a strong foundation for current and future generations in Kamsack to follow.

The questionnaire’s first three questions are about the respondent’s age, how many children in the family and whether he or she lives in Kamsack or surrounding area. It then asks where one finds information about physical activity opportunities and asks one to rate Kamsack on how it makes accessing physical activity options.

Space is provided for any additional comments one may wish to add to most of the questions.

“What makes it easy for you to be physically active in your community?” it asks before listing six options one may check, plus space for “other.”

“What motivates you to be physically active?” it asks, with a selection of seven likely responses.

“In the past week, please check all the activities you and your family have participated in,” it says, listing six options, plus space for “other.”

The questionnaire asks what challenges exist that may limit physical activity and what the community could do more of to increase physical activity options. It asks what facilities one has accessed in the past 12 months and if it is “easy” to walk and bike in Kamsack.

There’s room for more responses to be listed and then one may enter one’s name and phone number in order to qualify for a prize for having completed the survey.
