Displays concerning at least two Kamsack district residents are part of the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame’s 50th anniversary travelling exhibit that will be in Kamsack on July 5 and Duck Mountain Provincial Park on July 6.

Among the numerous artifacts on display, will be one concerning Kamsack’s own Peter Jmaeff, who had been inducted back in 2005 for his contributions in shooting, said Autumn McDowell, communications co-ordinator for the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame. Visitors to the trailer will have a chance to see his governor-general’s medal in person.

Also represented in the trailer will be Antoine “Tony” Cote of Cote First Nation, McDowell said.

At Kamsack the trailer will be parked at the intersection of main street and Nykolaishen Drive and will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., while at Duck Mountain the next day, it will be parked at Ministik Beach.

“We will be going to 70 locations throughout the province from July to October,” she said. “This project has been in the making for many months now, and we can’t wait to hit the road! We want to give everyone in Saskatchewan the chance to celebrate our 50th anniversary with us.”

When asked about the exhibits related to Stan Green, Albert Cottenie and the other members of the Kamsack Cyclones baseball team, which have all been admitted to the Sports Hall of Fame, McDowell said that those athletes are members of the satellite halls, the Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame and the Saskatoon Sports Hall of Fame, and not yet members of the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame.

“One of our goals for this momentous year is to hold events throughout Saskatchewan in order to properly showcase our province’s rich sport history and fulfill our provincial mandate,” said a release from the Sports Hall of Fame. “To help accomplish this goal, we have outfitted a semi-trailer with artifacts that speak to this rich history.

“When you enter the trailer you will be instantly transported back in time to some of Saskatchewan’s proudest sports moments,” the release said. “With plenty to see and do, residents will not want to miss the opportunity to see our first-ever traveling exhibit when it rolls into town.

“From July 24 to 28 we will be parked in Estevan, the host site of the Saskatchewan Summer Games,” it said. “Thanks to a generous donation from the Saskatchewan Blue Cross, fans in attendance will also have the unique opportunity to meet SSHF speed skating inductee, Catriona Le May Doan, on July 24.
