Saskatoon roads and streets are again covered with snow.

SASKATOON - The City of Saskatoon's road crews are working hard to ensure the safety of motorists and pedestrians during a spring storm that has caused snowfall and freezing conditions resulting in ice formation on the roads and sidewalks.

The recent snowfall and plummeting temperatures have made driving tricky, causing city crews to apply de-icing materials since the rain and snow began.

Circle Drive, high-speed streets, intersections, and bridge decks are the priority for the city's crews in clearing the snow and applying de-icing materials. Arterial streets and bus routes will follow.

Saskatoon Police Service has cautioned motorists to reduce their speed due to the icy road conditions after responding to several collisions since 5:40 p.m. on Wednesday, April 19.

Drivers are advised to slow down, stay safe from other vehicles, and be patient when travelling. Motorists should adjust their driving for road conditions and leave extra room and time for their commute.

City crews will work overnight, applying salt to break the ice layers and using sanders. Motorists should be mindful of blue and amber flashing lights on road maintenance equipment and leave room for the operators to do their work.

The SPS has urged the public to call 306-975-8300 or 9-1-1 in an emergency if they see a collision or need road assistance.
