Saskatoon firefighters attend to several fires.

SASKATOON — Update, Oct. 1: A vehicle parked in the garage caused the blaze that hit a residential structure on Thursday in the 100 block of Pichler Crescent.

The fire investigator examined the fire and identified the cause was accidental that originated from the vehicle’s engine compartment parked inside the attached garage.

The estimated damage was $350,000.

Background: The Saskatoon Fire Department responded to a residential fire in the 100 block of Pichler Crescent on Thursday. The fire was reported at 2:54 p.m.

Dispatched to respond to the fire were four engines, one ladder truck, a rescue truck, the Battalion Chief, and a fire investigator.

The fire crews that first arrived on the scene saw the attached garage fully involved in fire and had already extended into the roof of the entire structure. All utilities were shut off to ensure safety.

Tactical assignments were given to incoming fire crews. The ladder truck was used to extinguish the fire that had gotten into the roof. Fire was brought under control at 4:06 p.m.

A fire investigator was on scene to conduct an examination to identify the cause, origin and damage estimate.

On Tuesday, a similar structure fire broke out at 9:20 p.m. at 437 Avenue U South. Three fire engines, a rescue unit, a ladder truck, and the Battalion Chief were dispatched.

Upon arrival, fire crews observed flames coming from the back of a house. All occupants were reported to be outside the home. Firefighters advanced a hose line to apply water to the exterior of the fire while utilities were shut down.

The fire was confirmed to be fully extinguished at approximately 10:20 p.m. and the scene was turned over to SFD’s fire investigator to determine the cause.

The fire was deemed as suspicious. The scene was turned over to the Saskatoon Police Service for further investigation. Damage is estimated to be $120,000.
