Saskatoon police uses CEW in domestic disturbance

Two females were located in aapartment, actively involved in a physical struggle. An officer deployed a conducted energy weapon to end the struggle and separated the females.

SASKATOON — Saskatoon Police responded to a complaint of a family disturbance at 8:33 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 18, at an apartment in the 3800 block of Luther Place.

Patrol officers to the call approximately 10 minutes later with information that a female at the address was either intoxicated on alcohol or high on drugs and had assaulted a child.

The caller from the apartment was still on the phone with dispatchers and was heard to be involved in a struggle.

Arriving officers found the door to the apartment locked and had to forcibly enter the apartment.

Two females were located in the apartment, still actively involved in a physical struggle.

An officer at the scene deployed a conducted energy weapon to end the struggle and separated the females.

Officers, based on their further investigation of the incident, took into custody a 32-year-old female.

The 59-year-old female was determined to be the initial caller and only received minor injuries from the CEW deployment. She was later transported to the hospital for examination and is not facing any charges.

The other female faces charges for assaulting the other female at the apartment.  

The CEW deployment will be reviewed as per use of force policy.
