SaskEnergy and the SaskEnergy Network Members teamed up once again on a program to promote the importance of carbon monoxide detection and maintaining your natural gas heating equipment. The Tune-Up Assistance Program (TAP) for homeowners provides a hands-on examination of home heating equipment by qualified plumbing and heating contractors, to ensure it operates efficiently and safely when needed most.
Applications were received throughout the summer from several different communities across the province, and over 400 low-income homeowners received the one-time SaskEnergy Network Home Heating Tune-Up at no charge. A multi-gas detector that detects both natural gas and carbon monoxide and two furnace filters were also provided to each homeowner as an additional safety measure. The program ended October 31st of this year.
“We are thrilled about the number of applications we received this year, there was definitely an increase in awareness of the program. We’re also very thankful to the sixty SaskEnergy Network Members that participated in the Tune-Up Assistance Program in communities across the province – they allow us to service several different areas and we could not have this program without their time, resources and expertise,” Samantha Gross, Customer Solutions Leader with SaskEnergy, said. “Providing this program to eligible low-income homeowners allows SaskEnergy to give back to the residence of our province while providing them a free service that keeps them and their families safe.”
TAP serves as a reminder to all Saskatchewan homeowners about the importance of furnace maintenance and cleaning, including replacing furnace filters every one to two months during the winter heating season. Dirty furnace filters reduce airflow and force the furnace to run longer, leading to higher energy bills, potential costly repairs, poor indoor air quality, or even no service during cold winter temperatures.
“I am so pleased with the inspection I received... As a senior in my own home, it is reassuring to know that my furnace was properly serviced. I feel fortunate to be chosen for this wonderful program. Thank you so much” said one TAP participant.
The 2019 TAP homeowners are from one of these 31 communities: Carlyle, Foam Lake, Hudson Bay, Leslie, Wadena, and Yorkton.
