SaskPower outage caused by tree falling on power line

About 1,800 SaskPower customers in Canora and the surrounding area were plunged into the darkness the evening of November 18 when a power outage was caused by a tree falling on a power line, said Jonathan Tremblay, a spokesman for SaskPower.

About 1,800 SaskPower customers in Canora and the surrounding area were plunged into the darkness the evening of November 18 when a power outage was caused by a tree falling on a power line, said Jonathan Tremblay, a spokesman for SaskPower.

The incident happened south of the Canora Composite High School at about 7 p.m., he said. SaskPower crews were dispatched and as repairs were made, some customers were back on line shortly after 8 p.m., but it was almost 9 p.m. before power service was completed restored.

The incident in Canora was not the only one to be caused by the high winds that accompanied a fast-moving storm through the province that afternoon and evening, Tremblay said. Numerous outages were reported from the Humboldt-Watrous area, all the way to the Yorkton area.

The Canora incident was the last major outage to be addressed and by the next morning, power service had been restored throughout the areas affected by the storm, he said.
