Approximately 100 people in the Madge Lake area on Saskatchewan’s eastern border are trying to find a missing 15-year-old boy last seen early Sunday morning at 12:30 a.m.
The Kamsack RCMP detachment said Jaxon MacDonald, who's from Regina, was last seen leaving “a residence/cottage on foot in the Jubilee Subdivision area of Duck Mountain Provincial Park,” which is partially in Saskatchewan and in Manitoba.
His family is putting up a reward of up to $100,000 if any information is provided that leads to his whereabouts.
He was last seen wearing all black clothing — a Champion hoodie, Adidas sweat pants and Adidas shoes. Mounties said he was going to a nearby “residence/cottage in the same subdivision.”
Madge Lake is about a 25-minute drive east of Kamsack.
MacDonald is Caucasian, is five feet, six inches tall, has brown hair and blue eyes, along with freckles. He wears braces.
His mom, Danielle Wilson, said, “We’re not ruling anything out. We don’t know if he got a ride or jumped into a car with somebody else. We don’t know if he fell into something. The lake’s frozen over completely, so there’s no way he could have fallen through the ice.”
Wilson said her son was at a party with friends in the area; he texted her at 12:30 a.m. to pick him up. It was the third hourly check-in via text she received from her son, starting from 10:30 p.m.
The party was at a residence five minutes away by car, “only a block away in a small beach community, with a bunch of local kids, where everybody knows each other,” Wilson said.
When she arrived, he wasn’t there. “This all happened very quickly.”
RCMP members have been working with police dogs, air search and rescue crews, Kamsack firefighters and volunteers from the public since Sunday to try to find MacDonald.
Search teams are knocking on doors in the area.
The RCMP said anyone with a seasonal property who is not there now but wants their cottages, outbuildings or ice shacks checked should call Kamsack RCMP to request it: 306-542-5560.
“Police and Jaxon’s family are concerned for his wellbeing,” the RCMP said.
“He’s a smart, resourceful kid. He’s friendly, he’s outgoing,” Wilson said of her son. “He’s safe and mature for his age.”
Anyone with information can call Kamsack RCMP at 306-542-5560 or call 911.
