Esther Sigurdson, president of the Saskatchewan Hospital Auxiliary Association SHAA, brought greetings on behalf of the association to the annual meeting held in Preeceville on April 20.
“At times we get so focused on our own little group that we don’t realize we are part of a bigger picture. Seeing the big picture is a privilege of my job as president.” There are currently 31 auxiliaries affiliated with SHAA. The 31 auxiliaries have a combined membership of 806 (including 70 junior volunteers).
“Together you have worked 105,485 volunteer hours and raised $1,088,746 this last year,” Sigurdson said. “That is a huge accomplishment that you all need to be very proud of. This money has gone into our health care system and has been used in a variety of ways.
“Last year I tried to explain the role of SHAA. I am not sure everyone still really understands it but as we work through the next few years and changes come up, good communication is going to be pivotal. Communication takes place in many forms: verbal, written, direct, indirect, email, fax and text messages. Good communication must be two-way. We need to hear from everyone. If you don’t understand, don’t agree- speak up,” concluded Sigurdson.
The next convention is scheduled for October 19-20 in Estevan.
