Small gathering held at Ukrainian Heritage Museum to commemorate Holodomor

            A solemn gathering was held at the Ukrainian Heritage Museum to remember the loss of millions of Ukrainians.

            A commemoration of the Holodomor genocide of 1922 and 1923 was held on November 23 at the Ukrainian Heritage Museum. A full-length film, Genocide Revealed, was played to show the historic significance of the genocide.

            The documentary has won numerous awards at international film festivals, according to information from the Holodomor website, including the Albert Award for Best Documentary at the Litchfield Hills Film Festival, the Best Audience Award for historical documentary and Special Eye-opener Award at the Film Festival of Colorado, Best Historical Film at the Honolulu Film Awards and the Special Jury Remi Award on Political/International Issues at the Worldfest-Houston International Film Festival.

            The film, which details the famine in Soviet Ukraine when millions were deliberately starved to death by Joseph Stalin’s regime and the accompanying destruction of Ukraine’s leadership was produced, edited and directed by Yurij Luhovy, a Montreal filmmaker.

            After the documentary, coffee was served to guests.
