STC Wellness Centre opening delayed

The facility needs HVAC inspection approval

SASKATOON — The Saskatoon Tribal Council has delayed the opening of its Wellness Centre as inspection of the facility still needs to be approved.

The Wellness Centre, which aims to temporarily house at least 50 people as temperatures are expected to be in double digits in the coming days, was supposed to open on Monday.

STC, in a statement, said they are working hard to open the Wellness Centre in time to help the homeless get off the streets as soon as possible.

Opening the centre is their top priority but they cannot open the facility until the HVAC inspection has been approved.

STC Chief Mark Arcand said they are waiting for the approval after the inspection to meet the air circulation and exchange requirements.

“We will follow all safety measures related to fire and health codes. We want to do this right. The [STC] believes that it is essential for our relatives and staff to be safe, and this is a priority for us,” said Arcand.

Maintaining a safe atmosphere for relatives and staff in the facility is set on the city building application.

STC will notify everyone when the Wellness Centre opens and provide information on contacts, intakes, and donations.
