SASKATOON — Council 8215 of the Knights of Columbus donated two large deep freezers to the Emergency Wellness Centre, equipment that would be useful in storing frozen foods as the Saskatoon Tribal Council prepared its plans for Phase 2 of their facility.

STC Chief Mark Arcand received the donated items on Wednesday, March 2, at the ETC facility from officers and members of KoC’s Council 8215, which was named after former city alderman and Grand Knight Denis Mahoney.

“We thank the Knights of Columbus for their generous support. Homelessness is a community problem and it’s great to see the community come together as we look to help those in need,” said Arcand.

Arcand said the chest freezers given by KoC’s Council 8215 would be part of their phase two plan of building a commercial kitchen that the relatives and staff can use to cook food. KoC Council 8215, based at Holy Family Cathedral, also gave boxes of clothes and winter jackets.

The EWC needs more space to store frozen food before donating the two chest freezers. The meals given to the 106 relatives who call the EWC home are prepared at White Buffalo Youth Lodge and delivered thrice daily to the Fairmont Drive facility.
