Stories came alive on the ice

Skaters from the Preeceville Figure Skating Club were showcased in the annual ice carnival.

PREECEVILLE - The Preeceville Skating Arena was alive with excitement as the members of the Preeceville Figure Skating Club took to the ice to show off their skills.

The March 24 carnival showcased the talent and hard work done through the season of the 50 plus students. The theme for the carnival was When the Stories Come Alive and featured skaters performing to a variety of musical melodies.

Morgan Frank and Corianne Metherell were the coaches for the season and the program assistants helping through the season were: Paje Reynolds, Trenley Nelson, Macey Mitchell, Mackenna Firman, Briley Friday, Alex Algabre, Kelsey Olson, Adley Ward, Blakley Firman and Sage Ward.

Laura Sliva had the responsibility to introduce each skater as they took to the ice for their performances. Shannon Nelson was the music co-ordinator.

First on the ice was the intermediate skaters of Briley Friday, Alex Algabre and Kelsey Olson as they skated to the Love Story.

Next, was Stage 2 skaters who performed to Little Bo Beep. Skaters were Deklyn Morton-Blender, Adley Jewhurst, Ayda Morton-Blender, Eden Zilch and Aubree Cowell. The skaters also performed a second performance to Teddy Bear’s Picnic.

Stage 4 and 5 skaters of Hazely Preston, Sawyer Salisbury, Rayna Blotski and Evelyn Maier performed to Following the Leader.

Paje Reynolds, a senior skater, performed a solo to Almost There.

Stage 3 skaters of Ava Jewhurst, Forrest Van Nieuwenhuyze, Violet Quewezance and Aspen Zilch skated to Walk the Dinosaur and We Got the Whole World in Our Hands.

The junior star skaters of Adley Ward, Sage Ward and Blakley Firman performed to Barbie Dreams.

The Stage 6 skaters of Danae Draper, Oliver Nelson, Chantelle Quewezance, Josie Moekerk, Freya Sandager, Charis Maier, Jaxson Rubletz, Georgia Van Nieuwenhuyze and Charlette Gulka skated to We’ve Got Lots in Common.

After the intermission break, the senior skaters of Paje Reynolds, Trenley Nelson, Macey Mitchell and Mackenna Firman took to the ice to perform a lively routine to I Need a Hero.

Stage 4 and 5 skaters of Hazely Preston, Sawyer Salisbury and Rayna Blotski skated to Oompa Loompa.

The Stage 6 skaters of Danae Draper, Oliver Nelson, Chantelle Quewezance, Josie Moekerk, Freya Sandager, Jaxson Rubletz, Georgia Van Nieuwenhuyze and Charlette Gulka skated to Hey Nancy Drew.

Star skaters of Macey Mitchell, Mackenna Firman, Briley Friday, Blakley Friday, Paje Reynolds, Sage Ward, Kelsey Olson, Alex Algabre, Trenley Nelson and Adley Ward performed to the prologue of Harry Potter.

All the members of the Preeceville Figure Skating Club joined together for a finale performance that concluded the afternoon carnival.

“This was my first-year coaching and it went great,” said Morgan Frank. “We started out the season with 50 skaters and we had a lot of fun and learned from each other.”

“It was great to see each skater blossom and learn better techniques and skills to become a better skater.”
