Sturgis charity motorcycle rally raises funds for Mackenzie Society

The Sturgis seventh annual charity run was another huge success, according to Ron Descalchuk, one of the organizers. The weekend was held at the yard of Ron and Rose Descalchuk, located three kilometers west of Sturgis along Highway No.

            The weekend was held at the yard of Ron and Rose Descalchuk, located three kilometers west of Sturgis along Highway No. 9 on August 4, 5 and 6. Proceeds for the weekend were allotted towards Preeceville Mackenzie Society.

            The weekend kicked off with entertainment provided by James Williams, followed by visiting of guests.

            Saturday featured a car and motorcycle show-and-shine event which had 24 entries.

            Mike Descalchuk won the award for having the best motorcycle for his 2015 Harley. Kelvin Moore won for best car for his 1932 Ford coupe. Bob Knutson won for best truck for his entry, a 1953 Ford F100.

            Other entries were by: Brian Stanek, 1970 Plymouth GTX; Alberta Rose, a 1949 Dodge; John Enns, 2005 Harley; Darwin Williamson, 1960 Ford T-Bird; Lorne and Dwayne Stankewich, 1974 Plymouth Cuda; John Gyug, 1970 Dodge Charger; Keith Descalchuk, 2012 Harley; Claude Gyug, 1959 Ford Skyliner convertible; Rod Melnychuk, 1986 BMW; Russell Richards, 1974 Dodge car; Darren Descalchuk, 1979 Dodge car; Carl McClough, 1976 Pontiac Trans Am; Ray McKay, 1954 GMC truck; Brian Yates, 1966 Mustang; Bob Bartch, 1949 Rover; Cliff Kooisra, 1956 Meteor Crown Victory; John Amba, 1978 Dodge car and a 1989 5TH Avenue; Lyle  Oscenny, 1965 Impala; Wayne Balaberda, 1962 Pontiac, and Dennis Soltys a 1972 Dodge Challenger.

            Numerous motorcycle games challenged the most experienced riders. Live entertainment was provided by Rusty Cameron of Hudson Bay, Rob Scher of Langenburg and Dylan Descalchuk joined Cameron for a few songs. Fireworks concluded the day.

            A breakfast kicked off a rally on Sunday that featured 42 motorcycles with 40 riders and one car, a 1949 Dodge. The 300-kilometre rally began from the Descalchuk yard and had participants traveling through Preeceville, Kelvington, Benito, Tisdale, Archerwill and back at Descalchuk's yard.

            "We would like to thank everyone for making the weekend another success," said Ron Descalchuk. "Thanks to our old crew that keeps coming out year after year.”

Descalchuk recognized all the people at the Road Kill Café, entertainers and “our new friends who made it out this weekend.”

According to an electronic gate alarm, approximately 460 people came through the gates. Members of the Mackenzie Society were on board for the donations. They raised approximately just over $2,200.
