Sturgis school students and staff remember the fallen

The Sturgis Composite School joined together in pausing to remember the fallen during the schools' Remembrance Day service on November 9. Brad Cameron, principal, welcomed everyone to the annual Remembrance Day Service.

            The Sturgis Composite School joined together in pausing to remember the fallen during the schools' Remembrance Day service on November 9.

            Brad Cameron, principal, welcomed everyone to the annual Remembrance Day Service.

            Students, staff and special guests stood at the playing of O Canada and the entrance of the Colour Party. Zanthany Olson from the 606 Harvard Air Cadets squadron led the cadets and Colour Party to the ceremony, which was followed by Norquay Legion members Betty Lou Skogen and Smith Thomson.

            Students who recited poems were Jainylle Gagnon, Trina Correos, Kylie Babiuk, Eloisa Vicente and Hannah Gerbrandt.

            The Grade 1 class, under direction of Sherry Lesser, teacher, sang The Peace Song. Students in grades 2, 3 and 4 sang A Song of Peace, under the direction of Carla Olson, teacher.

            A video presentation of Soldier's Cry, produced by Roland Majeau was shown. Tara Romanchuk, teacher, was responsible for putting the presentation together.

            Lisa Serdachny was responsible for the playing of a recording of The Last Post and Reveille.

            Wreaths were laid after the one minute of silence. Students, staff, cadets and Legion members who laid wreaths included: Bo Babiuk and Peyton Secundiak on behalf of the Student Representative Council; Mason Babiuk and Nicholas Kucharyshen, on behalf of students from Kindergarten to Grade 5; Meghan Hurlburt, on behalf of staff; Betty Lou Skogen, on behalf of the Legion, and cadets Zanthany Olson and Roberta Kaytor on behalf of the Government of Canada.
