Sturgis skaters showcased at annual ice carnival

The 64th annual Sturgis ice carnival featured the Sturgis Figure skating club members and their achievements from throughout the year at the Sturgis Skating Arena on March 5. The carnival theme was A Night of One-Hit Wonders .

            Before the ice carnival, hockey games were played with the IP team facing off against Kelvington and the novice and atom teams taking on Foam Lake.

            Heather Jaeb was the head coach for the skaters. Janice Beatty was the mistress of ceremonies for the evening.

            O Canada and opening remarks kicked off the evening performances.

            First on the ice were Star skaters who skated to Electric Avenue. The skaters were Sierra Judkins, Kylie Babiuk, Peyton Secundiak, Rhianna Olson, Danielle Burym and Mollie Jaeb.

            Next on the ice were Stage 3 girls: Makayla Johnson, Nevaeh Rudachyk, Brea Babiarz and Allie Babiuk who performed to Bette Davis Eyes.

            Stage 2 skaters, who performed to The Future's So Bright, were Mollie Jaeb and Rhianna Olson. Star skaters who accompaniedwere: Avery Masley, Riley Wiwcharuk, Zaiden Rudachyk, Dillion Serdachny, Keltyn Konkel, Eva Romanchuk, Phoenix Galay, Morgan Olson, Savannah Neilson and Chloe Jansen.

            Shanae Olson skated a junior bronze number to Tarzan Boy.

            Stage 5 skaters who performed to Steal my Sunshine were: Savannah Olson, Bailey Peterson, Cheyenne Peterson and Anna Hort.

            Jaxon Neilson and Damon Galiz performed a duet to Kung Fu Fighting.

            Rhianna Olson skated a senior bronze solo to Life in a Northern Town.

            Stage 3 skaters who performed to Hey Mickey were: Nevaeh Rudachyk, Xerxes Galay, Makayla Johnson, Brea Babiarz and Allie Babiuk.

            Stage 4 skaters who skated to I'm Gonna Be (500 miles) were: Myrandah Gagnon, Karley Buchinski, Emma Olson, Layla Jaeb, Tannis Fullawka, Alexander Neilson, Amrie Seerey, Peyton Fullawka, Ripley Pristie, and Darin Serdachny.

            Sierra Judkins skated a prelimiary solo to 1000 Miles.

            Video killed the Radio Star was brought to life by Stage 6 skaters: Jainylle Gagnon, Avyn Seerey and Natalie Gregory.

            Kylie Babiuk and Mollie Jaeb skated a duet to Wanna Be.

            Dillion Serdachny, Xerxes Galay, Kelton Konkel and Zaiden Rudachyk skated to Cotton Eyed Joe.

            Jaxon Neilson, Damon Galiz and Paige Galiz skated to Don't Worry Be Happy.

            Danielle Burym skated a senior bronze solo to Unbelievable.

            Stages 4, 5 and 6 skaters who sakted to Who Let the dogs Out were: Avyn Seerey, Darian Serdachny and Alexander Neilson.

            M.C Hammer's Can't Touch This was skated by Star skaters Shanae Olson, Peyton Secundiak and Sierra Judkins.

            Skating to Barbie Girl were stage 4 girls, Ripley Pristie, Myrandah Gagnon, Amrie Seerey, Tannis Fullawka, Peyton Fullawka, Layla Jaeb, Emma Olson, and Karley Buchinski.

            Stages 1 and 2 skaters who performed to Walking on Sunshine were: Savannah Neilson, Phoenix Galay, Ripley Wiwcharuk, Paige Galiz, Eva Romanchuk, Chloe Jansen, Morgan Olson and Avery Masley.

            Bailey Peterson, Jainylle Gagnon, Cheyenne Peterson, Natalie Gregory, Savannah Olson and Anna Hort skated to Mambo No. 5.

            Danielle Burym and Rhianna Olson concluded the performances by skating to the Axel F Theme.

            Kacie Meronuik was crowned the carnival queen.

            After the ice carnival, the Sturgis Trash hockey team faced off against the Jetsburg Jets and Sturgis won the game.

            The weekend activities concluded the next day with a pancake breakfast and skate races.
