The Sturgis branch of the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation honoured avid hunters and fishermen at the annual banquet and trophy night on April 29 at the Sturgis Community Hall.
The supper menu included: smoked turkey, pork loin, beef roast, sweet-and-sour venison meat balls, perogies, mashed potatoes, cabbage rolls, salads and skor and blueberry trifle. Irene's catering was responsible for preparing the meal.
Rob Wilcott acknowledged executive members and spoke briefly on the club’s accomplishments throughout the year.
Johnny Petryshyn, conservation officer from the Preeceville branch of the Saskatchewan Conservation office, attended.
There were bucket raffles, games and silent auction items won throughout the evening.
Vi Skogen won the best women's walleye that weighed 3.8 pounds.
Harold Barillo won awards for best tiger trout, 5.12 pounds, and the Odvin Mattison Memorial Award for having caught the best Canada goose which weighed 13 pounds.
Kelly Masley won the best men's northern pike award for his entry that weighed 14.2 pounds.
Amanda Masley won the women's northern pike for her entry that weighed 12.4 pounds.
Alex Barsby won awards for the best yellow perch for an entry that weighed 1.5 pounds and the award for the best archery elk that scored 125 3/8 inches.
Brian Masley won the men's walleye award for his entry that weighed 11.10 pounds.
Brynn Babiuk won the junior women's walleye for her entry that weighed 11.8 pounds.
Trae Peterson won the junior men's walleye for his entry of 9.8 pounds.
Junior northern pike awards went to Avery Masley (women’s, 11.11 pounds) and Shae Peterson (men's, 16. 3 pounds).
Trae Peterson also won the junior men's archery typical white-tailed deer award for an animal that scored 116 0/8 inches and the junior men's grouse award for his entry that weighed 3.4 pounds.
Kaiden Masley won junior men's perch award that weighed 1.10 pounds. Masley also won the junior men's sauger award for a fish that weighed 2.5 pounds.
Mason Babiuk won the junior men's small mouth bass award for his entry that weighed 2.2 pounds.
Emily Kalnicki won the junior women's lake trout award for her entry that weighed 9.9 pounds.
Andrew Chupik won the award for bear that scored 15 12/16 points.
Blaise Zubko won the typical mule deer entry that scored 155 0/8 inches.
Perry Kelller won the moose award for his entry that scored 144 6/8 inches.
Justin Keller won the elk award for his entry that scored 345 6/8 inches.
Jason Meroniuk won the non-typical white-tailed deer award for his entry that scored 174 2/8 inches.
Cory Babiuk was awarded the archery moose award for his entry of 129 3/8 inches.
Mitchell Meroniuk won the typical white-tailed deer award for his entry that scored 162 6/8 inches.
Austin Bartch won the junior men's typical white-tailed deer award for his entry that scored 105 1/8 inches.
Kacie Meroniuk won the junior women's non-typical white-tailed deer award for an animal that scored 190 7/8 inches.
Bo Babiuk won awards for the muzzle loader non-typical mule deer award for an animal that scored 116 0/8 inches and the junior men's duck award for his entry that weighed 4.4 pounds.
Carter Masley won the award for junior men's Canada goose that weighed 11.1 pounds.
A dance concluded the evening with One Young’ N providing the entertainment.
