Suspected Vandals Appear in Court

July incident drew ire of tax-paying residents

Three people who had each been charged with two counts of mischief following acts of vandalism that took place in Outlook earlier this summer had their matter go before a judge in the Outlook court room on Thursday, August 10.

Sgt. Mark Langager of the Outlook RCMP told this reporter that one of the suspects charged, Rose Hill, pled not guilty, and so she’ll return to court on December 12 for a trial.

The two others that were charged, Jeremy Dunning and a youth who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, didn’t enter a plea in court, and their matters have been adjourned to September 14.

During the late night hours between Friday, July 7 and Saturday, July 8, a number of flower planters that can be seen along the sidewalks of Outlook’s business district were tipped over and their contents thrown across Saskatchewan Avenue.  In addition, RCMP received complaints of street signs that were spray-painted, as well as light poles, street and sidewalk surfaces, and one vehicle.

By that Monday morning, Outlook RCMP had charged the three in connection with the damage.

The acts of vandalism drew a flurry of emotions and reactions both in-person and online from tax-paying local residents and business owners, particularly at a time when the town of Outlook had just celebrated a monumental Canada 150 weekend in which the community came together.
