The Villain Wore a Dirty Shirt by Tim Kelly was performed by the Preeceville-Sturgis United Church Players as their annual spring play.

The Villain Wore a Dirty Shirt by Tim Kelly was performed by the Preeceville-Sturgis United Church Players as their annual spring play.

            The cast performed the play in three locations over three days: in Stenen on April 28; Sturgis on April 29, and concluded in Preeceville on April 30.

            “The Villain Wore a Dirty Shirt is a comedy set in the western era in the Town of Digalittledeeper during the gold digging days.

            It is set in the Tub and Scrub, which has become the only laundry left in town, as one by one, Mrs. Mugwump an arsonist, played by Trina Wardle, burns every other one down.

            Phineas, played by Miles Russell, goes for the gold and “gets it,” once the laundry owner Olympia Klemnz, played by Karolyn Kosheluk, goes to her reward.

            In the meantime, Sheriff Jack B. Nimble, played by Daniel Metherell, and Sweet Sally, played by Britney Vewchar, formed a romance while also trying to catch the mysterious and elusive hombre who operates the asylum.

            The chase at the end of the play brings it all to a climax as the criminals are arrested and Mayor Haggle, played by Ron Waugh, congratulates the sheriff.

            Cast members were: Britney Vewchar as Sweet Sally; Karolyn Kosheluk portrayed Olympia Klenz and Ophelia; Daniel Metherell, Coyote and Sheriff Jack B. Nimble; Miles Russell, Phineas Flatworm; Kennedy Kosheluk, Lola-Lola; Trina Wardle, Mrs. Mugwump; Syndey Kidder, Little Lavania; Natashia Lingl, Ida; Ron Waugh, Mayor Haggle; Myra Stachiw, Irma; Laura Chartrand, Cousin Wolf, and Kelsey Kosheluk, banjo payer.

            Choir members were Leanne McDonald, Maureen Johnson, Arlene Lingl, Elaine Meachem, Marlene Covey, Mavis Morken and Don Olson.

            Pat Prokop was the director; Carla Lewis and Hazel Urbanoski, co-ordinators; Leona Lofthang, treasurer, Carla Lewis, prompter; Mehgan Petryshyn, lights; Darin Newton and Cliff Prestie, transported flats; Verna Larson, posters and publicity; Maureen Johnson, costumes, and Jeff Davis, sound.

            Door greeters were: Vicky Tanton and Denise Barabonoff at Stenen; Anne Olson and Lorraine Shewchuk, Sturgis, and Bonnie and Jerry Lisitza, Preeceville.

            Lunch was organized by the United Church women in each location.
