The Canada Day celebration in Togo included members of the village council and past and present maintenance employees prepared breakfast for residents.

Working in the outdoor kitchen were Wilma Laviolette and Rolly Hamell, past village foreman, said Mayor Loretta Erhardt. They prepared locally-made sausages from K&C meats and pancakes served with strawberries and whipped cream with fresh fruit. Councillor Doug Laviolette helped serve customers.

Nick Klym had tilled the playground for Canada Day so the kids could play in fresh sand, Erhardt said.

Following breakfast, a service was held in the former All Saints Anglican Church, which is a heritage church owned by the Village of Togo.

The church’s bell had been removed when the roof of the building was re-shingled last spring, Erhardt said. Because the bell was putting too much pressure on the building, it was recommended to be taken down.

Randy Larson and Shirley Larson polished the bell, constructed the frame for the bell and the new sign while Rolly Hamell prepared the concrete foundation for the new site for the bell which is on the ground near the front entrance.

All the work was done by volunteers, Erhardt said. Patti Harper, who has a long history in this church, arranged for previous Togo resident Grace Skomorowski of Roblin to hold a church service at 11 a.m., which was followed by the ringing of the bell, which was seen to be the rededication of the bell.
