Town Council approves operating budget and accepts proposal for landfill action plan

Council adopted the 2019 operating budget and agreed that the mill rate be set at 14.05 mills.

Council accept the proposal of TetraTech Canada Inc. to provide an action plan, expanded groundwater monitoring, environmental monitoring plan and solid waste management feasibility assessment for the Town of Canora landfill at an estimated cost of $65,000.

Council agreed to purchase the Town of Canora’s 2019-2020 general and liability insurance policy at the quoted rate of $52,797 with SGI and Community Insurance was named as the agent of record.

Council authorized Catterall and Wright to proceed with the water treatment plant process waste upgrades as recommended in their April 1 correspondence at an estimated cost of $325,000.

Council waived $39 in water usage charges on the April 22 invoice for Peter and Donna Spelchen’s utility account at 129 Second Avenue East.

Council approve a municipal tax concession to 201 Canora Holdings Inc. for the property located at 117 Main Street (Lot 9, Block 2, Plan G2107): Purchase a commercial or industrial building or structure, vacant for more than one year, and operate a business there, provided it is an arms-length transaction, at the rate at 50 per cent in 2019, 50 per cent in 2020 and 25 per cent in 2021.

A bylaw to levy minimum taxes was introduced, read three times and adopted.
