Town council deals with 2017 mill rates, Canada 150 fly over, and wall climbing

            At the April 4 meeting, council acknowledged the provincial school division mill rates for 2017.

            The rate for agricultural properties is 1.43, down from 2.67 in 2016. The mill rate for residential properties is 4.12, down from 5.03 in 2016. The 2017 mill rate for commercial and industrial properties is 6.27, down from 8.28 in 2016 and the resource properties mill rate for 2017 is 9.68, down from 11.04 in 2016.

            Council approved the request of the Rock 98.5 radio station to set up a climbing wall in front of the CN Station House Museum on May 4, as long as the group provides its own insurance.

            At the April 18 meeting, council approved application to the Canadian Air Force for a fly over to be held during the Canada 150 events scheduled for July 22.

            Council adopted an agreement to enter into a land lease between the Town of Canora, landlord, and Shane and Clint Kraynick of Canora, tenants. The 122 acres in the agreement is located at SE 20-32-3-W2. The lease agreement is for six years at a yearly rental rate of $2,196, or $18 per acre.

            Council set the following landfill hours, as of May 1. Summer hours are Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, and 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Winter hours are also on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, but from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
