Town council makes appointments and accepts plumbing and electrical proposals

Town council made appointments to various boards and committees during its first meeting of the new year. A meeting of town council was held on January 3 and began with the approval of the minutes for December 20.

            A meeting of town council was held on January 3 and began with the approval of the minutes for December 20. After the approval, a public forum was held in which Codee Kopelchuk, Meridee Kopelchuk and Greg Smith met with council. They represented the Canora Minor Hockey League, and requested council look into providing additional female change rooms for hockey players at the Canora Civic Centre.

            Various appointments were made for the new year. Some contracts will last until December 31, some will carry on until the end of next year, and some will be perpetual.

            The firm of Rusnak Balacko Kachur Rusnak was appointed the town solicitor and Collins Barrow was appointed the auditor until December 31.

            The staff occupational health and safety committee is to be run by Courtney Bourassa, administrative assistant. Her alternate is Michael Mykytyshyn, chief administrative officer. Their terms will end December 31. The committee is also to include two Town of Canora employees and one member of the Canora Fire Department who will remain perpetually on the board.

            The community planning commission was appointed until December 31 to consist of Rod Petrychyn, Glenn Dutchak and Deryl Ortynsky.

            The development appeals board will consist of Lorne Kopelchuk, Bill Foreman and Ernie Gabora until December 31.

            Vince Bailey was appointed the pest control officer to December 31.

            The community (economic) development commission will consist of Dana Antonovich, Jeff Bisschop, Russell Bartko and Al Babb through to December 31.

            Members appointed to the leisure services board were Arlette Bogucky, Crystal Reine, Tammy Bobyk, Leona Kitchen, Cory O’Dell, Steve Yannoulis, Sharon Ripa, Deleena Faryna, Marg Blair, Kerry Fullawka, Micheal Fetchuk and either Bryce Pelechaty or Felicity Mydonick as the Canora Composite School representative. All are to serve to December 31 except Bogucky and Reine, who will remain on until December 31, 2018.

            The tourism committee until December 31 will be Brandi Zavislak, community development officer; Joy Stusek, Val Morozoff, Karen Wishlow and Candace Doogan.

            Inspectors for the town include David Wasyliw, the senior public works operator who handles untidy premises and signs of Dutch elm disease; PRY Security, which handles bylaw enforcement, and Meridan Inspection Services, which handles building inspection.

            North Eastern Municipalities Association members will be Dave Wasyliw and Wes Popoff, the water treatment plant operator.

            Randy Molyneaux was appointed the emergency measures organization co-ordinator.

            Pest control contractors are Greg Landstad, Garry Landstad, Grant Landstad, Nestor Dutchak, Chester Dutchak and Darcy Dutchak.

            Electrical proposals for 2017 were accepted from Gabora Electric 2015 Ltd. and DH Electric. The plumbing work for 2017 was appointed to Renegade Plumbing and Heating.

            A sign corridor agreement with Olivia Chaikowski was extended for an additional year and correspondence from the Hudson Bay Route Association, SNC Lavalin, Sunrise Public Health, the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, Saints Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, Canora Children’s Centre and Donald Oystryk was filed before the meeting was adjourned.
