Town Council proceeds with a pavement rehabilitation program

A pavement rehabilitation program and restricting the heights of buildings in residential areas were among the items of concern to town council at its regular meeting on August 1.

            Council approved proceeding with a pavement rehabilitation program on Railway Avenue and Norway Road as outlined by Walker Projects in its July 26 assessment and analysis report at an estimated cost of $1.3 million with the intention of completing the work in 2017.

            Council adopted the 2017 Water Works Rate Policy and Capital Investment Strategy with the intention of reviewing water rates before the end of 2017.

             Council awarded the 2017-2018 Civic Centre concession contract to 3G Catering at a rental rate of $275 per month plus GST.   

            Council approved entering into a three-year sign corridor land rental agreement, to begin in 2018, with SS. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Parish at a rate of $50 per sign, payable by December 15 of each year.

            Council amended the zoning bylaw to read: “In a residential district, accessory buildings shall not exceed 5.5 metres in height” and authorized the chief administrative officer to give the required public notice and prepare drafts to amend the law.

            Council tabled the request of Brandi Shea and Jason Fullawka for a reduction in property taxes on their property at 205 Roberts Avenue.                       

            In accordance with the Municipalities Act, council agreed to publish the 2016 audited financial statements for the Town of Canora on the Town’s website.
