The Treaty Education Alliance, working towards an Inherent and Treaty Rights-Based education system, is welcoming First Nations leaders and delegates to the 2020 Education Summit.
The Summit will be held in Regina on February 10th at the DoubleTree Hotel & Conference Centre. The Summit provides an opportunity for the Treaty Education Alliance, its member schools, and indigenous communities across the province to gather and plan for the future. The Summit serves as a platform to share a vision for the future.
Chief Nathan Pasap, Chairman of the Treaty Education Alliance Board of Directors, hopes the Summit can be part of achieving that larger vision.
“We have to figure out a way - either internally or working systematically with the government - to revitalize our languages and revitalize our cultural beliefs,” said Pasap. “We need to put our communities back on a healthy path, where there’s not rampant dropout rates, and find a holistic approach in regard to health and wellness, physical activity, and multigenerational traumas being put to rest.”
“We’re gathering to find ideas to solve these problems, to keep everyone well informed, and to let the communities know we’re at the negotiation table with the Federal government to seek funding for our sovereign nations, and the Treaty Education Alliance.”
The Treaty Education Alliance currently works with five First Nation member schools, with staff bringing expertise in the areas of the early years, literacy and numeracy, Nation Builder engagement, Learning the Land, community engagement, Indigenous pedagogy, special needs programming, digital literacy, and online learning.
The Treaty Education Alliance’s Mission is Working together to implement our inherent and treaty rights to education for the success of our citizens and nations.
The funding sought by the Treaty Education Alliance to fulfill its vision of enriched education in First Nations communities will require an increased commitment from the Government of Canada.
The Summit begins at 10:00AM on February 10th. For more information, please contact Chief Nathan Pasap (306-575-8208).
