The Sturgis branch of the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation hosted its annual “horn measuring event” at the Sturgis Arena on December 8. The club members brought in 16 antlers and one bear skull to be scored.

Blair Mitchell was the official antler measurer.

There were one moose, one mule deer, one bear, and 12 white-tailed deer.

"The numbers were down this year but have shown signs of recovery with some great quality antlers brought in," said Rob Wilcott, president. “The club had a quiet year but our awards will be presented on April 14."

The executive remains the same with Rob Wilcott, president; Alan Carlson, vice-president and membership chairperson; Daniel Wasylenchuk, secretary and treasurer; Kelly Masley, awards chairperson, and Russell Walker and Shirley Barbsy, fundraiser chairpersons.

“Last year there were 255 active members and this year promises to be an increase as membership sales are going well,” said Wilcott.

This spring the club is looking at replacing the little clubhouse at the gun range, he said. The club is in partnership with Preeceville to utilize the gun range.

The hide shack is being well supported, he said.
