SASKATOON – Mackenzie Lee Trottier is your typical Saskatchewan girl. Her favourite place to go is her family’s cabin. She enjoys hiking in nature, playing the guitar and singing, and she is always rescuing stray dogs and cats.
Mackenzie loves girly things like getting her nails done and wearing lots of make-up. “Mack” or “Mackie,” as her family and friends fondly call her, also enjoys helping with chores like painting the fence.
No one, however, has seen her since she disappeared two years ago in Saskatoon at the age of 22. Her family last saw her when she left their home in the 300 block of Trent Crescent of Saskatoon’s College Park East neighbourhood on Dec. 21, 2020.
When Mackenzie left, she didn’t seem upset and told her parents she would be back for Christmas, according to Stories of the Unsolved.
Mackenzie last accessed her cell phone Dec. 24, 2020, and didn’t show up as planned for Christmas with her family; parents Paul and Gina, and sisters Sadie and Laurenne.
Her father searched the north area of Idylwyld Drive in Saskatoon where she was said to have been dropped off but couldn’t find her, reported Stories of the Unsolved.
On Dec. 30, 2020, Mackenzie was reported missing to police.
On Jan. 15, 2021, Saskatoon Police Service issued a media release asking the public’s help to locate Mackenzie.
Mackenzie is 5-feet and 145 pounds. She has a fair complexion, blonde, medium length hair, and green eyes. She has broken front teeth and a tattoo on her right ankle.
Mackenzie’s family and friends have held rallies and poster campaigns in cities from British Columbia to Manitoba and her missing posters have also been posted in Ontario. Her family has offered a $20,000 reward for information that would help find her. They have also created a Facebook group and a website.
In February 2021, SPS Major Crime Section released photos of a male they believed may have information about Mackenzie’s disappearance. The man is described as approximately 5-foot-3 inches.
In December 2021, Calgary Police Service issued a media release saying they had received information that a person matching Mackenzie’s description was seen multiple times in downtown Calgary. CPS also asked the public’s help identifying the male in the sketch who may have information about Mackenzie’s whereabouts.
Saskatoon Police Major Crimes hasn’t announced they are investigating Mackenzie’s disappearance as a homicide.
