Ukrainian dance continue tradition of spreading hope and happiness

The traditions of dance kept alive through young Barveenok Sturgis Ukrainian Dance Club as they host its spring concert to a packed house.

STURGIS - The Barveenok Ukrainian Dance Club continued the tradition of showcasing the Ukrainian culture through its spring concert held in Sturgis on April 14.

The national anthems for both Canada and Ukraine were played followed by the welcome dance known as the Pryvit done by club members.

First on the stage was group four who performed Poltava dance. Dancers were, Eva Romanchuk, Allie Babiuk, Graison Belesky, Olivia Ivanochko and Amber MacDonald. Later in the program they also danced a Transcarpathian dance and a Volyn dance.

Maycee Johnson performed Transcarpathian solo.

Next, were the adult class danced a Poltava, members were, Sandra Johnson, Loranda Shuba, Kylee Meroniuk, Tecia Fincaryk, Jerilyn Radawetz, Brandi Arneson, Amanda Kowalchuk and Tara Romanchuk. They also danced a Transcarpathian dance and a Hutsul.

Group two members performed a Transcarpathian and a Poltava dance, with members, Brinley Robinson, Avery Storoschuk, Georgia van Nieuwenhuyze, Will Prestie, Blake Beatty, Nicholas Chalupiak, Josie Moekerk, Sophia Storoschuk and Hazely Preston.

Amber MacDonald performed a Hutsul and a Volyn solo.

Lindy Romanchuk, Lily Beatty, Maycee Johnson, Oliver Anaka, Emily Belesky and Karlie MacDonald performed a Poltava and a Bukovyna dance.

The youngest group of Hailey Seghers, Hartley Hurlburt, Everleigh Anaka, Connor Prestie and Hudson Babiarz performed two lively Poltava dances.

Guest performers, Jack and Greta Craig from the Canora Veselka Dance Club performed a Poltava. Later in the program they were joined by Noah Prychak who is also from the Canora group, in a lively fast paced Poltava dance.

Karlie MacDonald and Amber MacDonald performed a Bukovyna duet.

Eva Romanchuk danced a solo performance to a Lemko dance.

Oliver Anaka showcased his comedian side when he performed a character dance.

Sandra Johnson and her daughter Maycee Johnson and Amber and Karlie MacDonald performed a Poltava dance.

Tara Romanchuk and her daughters, Eva and Lindy Romanchuk had fun performing a lively family dance to a Polissia dance.

Lindy Romanchuk performed a beautiful solo dance to a Transcarpathian.

Emily Belesky and Graison Belesky received a five-year plaque that was presented by Sandra Johnson, president of the club.

Allie Babiuk received a 10-year plaque that was also presented by Sandra Johnson.

The concert concluded with a finale performed by all the dancers and their instructor Eric Sliva.

Brinley Robinson received the Maureen Lisoway Most Improved Dancer award. Lily Beatty received the Sharon Secundiak Kindness award. Amber MacDonald received the Lillian Steranko Spirit of Dance award and Lindy Romanchuk received the Lorna Brodziak Leadership award.
