Voting options for civic election

The civic election in Yorkton will have voters with lots of choice in terms of who will make up the next Council roster.

There are four candidates for Council; incumbent Bob Maloney, former Mayor and current Councillor Chris Wyatt and newcomers Andrew Probe and Calvin Tokarchuk.

As for the six Councillor positions, 24 are vying for spots. Voters may vote for up to six candidates, but are not required to cast a ballot for six.

According to the Tax Roll for the City, in 2016 there were 7,478 doors which when divided out works out to be 1.94 voters per door.

The City has established three polling areas; the Gallagher Centre, Gloria Hayden Community Centre and Yorkdale Central School.

 Voters have several options in terms of when and how to cast a vote.

Advance polls will be held on:

• Thursday, October 20th, 2016 from 12:00 noon to 8:00 p.m.; and

• Saturday, October 22nd, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Both are at the Gallagher Centre - Ravine Room

Mail-In Ballots

If you will be away during the Advance Polls and on Election Day, Mail-In Ballots may be an option for you. Please contact the City Clerk’s office at 306-786-1717 for more information.

Homebound Polls

Residents who are unable to attend an established Polling Place due to a physical disability or limited mobility, and the resident caregiver of such an elector, may apply for a Homebound Poll, whereby election officials attend their residence and thus provide them with an opportunity to vote. An elector wishing to utilize the Homebound Poll must apply in writing on a form prescribed by The Local Government Election Act, 2015 to the Returning Officer by 4:00 p.m. on October 19th, 2016, except in the case of City of Yorkton electors that are hospital in-patients at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre, who may supply a written application within 24 hours of Election Day.

• The Bentley Yorkton 94 Russell Drive    Monday, Oct. 24 1:00 p.m.

• Yorkton Housing Corporation - Independant Manor 160 Independant Street Tuesday, Oct. 25, 8:30 a.m.

• Yorkton Housing Corporation - Allan Bay Manor 25 Allan Bay Tuesday, Oct. 25, 10:30 a.m.

• Yorkton & District Nursing Home 200 Bradbrooke Drive Tuesday, Oct. 25, 1:00 p.m.

 • Aspen Bluffs Villa 27 Alderwood Place Tuesday, Oct. 25, 3:00 p.m.

 • Yorkton Crossing Retirement Community 348 Morrison Drive Wednesday, Oct. 26, 1:00 a.m.
