Vyshyvanka, as many know, is the name for the special embroidered shirt in traditional Ukranian national costumes, and Yorkton’s Leona Procyshyn is the organizer putting the celebration together here.

“It’s called Vyshyvanka day. From May 15th to the 26th every spring wearing an embroidered Ukranian shirt is intended to unite all Ukranians around the world, regardless of religion, language, or place of residence, said Procyshyn.

“It’s sponsored by the Ukranian Canadian Congress, and it’s celebrated across every province. Some have done a walk, some have done a church function. Well, our ladies here have a morning coffee twice a week so I thought, hey, this would be great.”

The colourful celebration brings everyone together with the joy of Ukranian Culture. For more information, visit the Ukranian-Canadian Congress’ website at http://www.ucc.ca/
