Walters: Accountability is not just for "little people."

Sask. Liberal leader Jeff Walters says Donna Harpauer must be held accountable after spending $8,000 on a chartered plane.

SASKATOON – Saskatchewan Liberal Leader Jeff Walters is calling for the resignation of Finance Minister Donna Harpauer after news broke that she flew on a chartered plane on March 25 from Regina to North Battleford at a cost of nearly $8,000. "In a time where wages are stagnant and the cost of living is skyrocketing, this is an indefensible example of wasting taxpayers’ dollars. Public servants need to be accountable for their actions and, in this case, accountability needs to be the resignation of the Minister,” said Walters.
This demand is about the news that Harpauer spent nearly $8,000 on a private plane from Regina to North Battleford to attend a Chamber of Commerce lunch days after she tabled a provincial budget containing tax hikes.

Walters added that this type of action must stop.

"Our health care and education systems are strained to the breaking point and the cost of living exploding. Yet our finance minister would rather blow $8,000 on a trip she could have easily driven to or even attended via Zoom,” he said.

“Folks are expected to tighten their belts in these troubled times and our government should lead by example. Accountability is not just for the ‘little people', Minister Harpauer.”
