Weekend incidents keep the SFD busy

Firefighters responded to two vehicle accidents and a fire on the weekend

SASKATOON — The Saskatoon Fire Department responded to several calls over the weekend, one of which is a two-vehicle collision on Sunday with one automobile hitting a house.

The SFD received a call at 2:25 p.m. on two vehicles involved in an accident on Munroe Avenue and 12th Street. An engine, rescue truck, and the Battalion Chief were dispatched.

Fire personnel, upon arrival at the scene, saw one vehicle on the road near the boulevard while the other one was struck the corner of the house.

Paramedics from the ambulance service took care of the patient while fire crews assessed the accident scene for safety, making sure no oil or other fluids were leaking, or risk to structural integrity or utility services.

The Saskatoon Police Service took over the scene at 3:09 p.m.

Earlier Sunday, at 12:12 a.m., the SFD were also called to a single vehicle rollover at 8th Street and Circle Drive. An engine and a rescue truck were dispatched where fire personnel saw the vehicle lying on its side.

Fire crews, after assessing the scene, confirmed there was no entrapment and injuries, and stabilized the vehicle.

The battery was disconnected, and leaking fluids were cleaned up, and fire crews turned the vehicle over to Saskatoon police.

On Saturday, a residential fire took place in the 1000 Block of Crescent Boulevard. The fire investigator, based on the investigation, deemed the fire as an accident after the propane heater was left turned on and too close to combustible materials.

The deck attached to the house caught fire because of the propane heater, causing an estimated cost of $30,000 in damages.
