A Togo resident won $440 for having guessed the correct day that the ice would melt on the slough and the car resting on the ice would drop into the water.

This old car, freed of its fuel and other possible pollutants, which during the winter had rested on the ice on a slough alongside Highway No. 8 south of Kamsack, dropped into the drink on April 21, ending the 2016 version of the annual Togo Car Drop fundraiser.

A Togo resident won $440 for having guessed the correct day that the ice would melt on the slough and the car resting on the ice would drop into the water.

Sandi Chomyn of Togo was one of eight people who guessed April 21 as the day of the drop, said Amanda Burback of the Togo Curling Club, which is the group that held the fundraising guessing game.

The eight names were placed in a hat and it was Chomyn’s name that was drawn, she said. The car dropped at about 1 p.m. that day.

With the fundraiser, in which players purchased “guesses” as to when the car would drop, the winner and the Togo Curling club each received $440. The funds are being used to complete paying for the curling rink renovations.
