Work is being done to create a public seating area in front of the Royal Canadian Legion in Moosomin.

On a recent clear Wednesday morning, a crew from Park Concrete Inc. was leveling cement that was poured by Crushrite Concrete in front of the Legion Memorial Hall in Moosomin.

This was the first step towards creating a permanent seating area with three commemorative benches.

The seating area will be in front of the Legion's building, right across from the post office on Moosomin's Main Street.

The work is part of an extensive renovation of the Legion, which has seen the entire exterior of the building redone.

The Legion was able to do the work through a combination of grants and community support.

“It is going to be a full sitting area our one bench is going to be a memorial bench that will say “Lest, we forget” and the other two will say Moosomin Legion,” said Donna Lafleur, Secretary-Treasurer for the Moosomin Legion.

The idea is to have the benches go into the cement on August 29.

“We are hoping to have the benches in next week. The renovations won’t all be done, we still need to do the wall at the back, but the front of the building will be totally done. We have to paint the eavesthrough yet, but that is it,” said Lafleur.
