Two sisters who are said to be the oldest living siblings in the world were born near Kamsack and one of them celebrated her 107th birthday on Monday.

Edna Paasche, who now lives at the Fairway View Neighbourhood in Ortonville, Minnesota, was born to Mr. and Mrs. Hjalmer Olaf Haldorson on their homestead claim near Kamsack on June 19, 1910.

Her sister, Rena Bagne, who lives in the same nursing home, celebrated her 109th birthday on March 2, and her photo and brief biography was printed in the March 2 issue of the Times.

“They are the oldest living siblings in the entire world,” said Norman Shelsta, who has been the sisters’ social correspondent for the past 10 years.

“Although wheelchair bound, they have crystal clear minds and enjoy playing cards and take part in all the activities,” Shelsta said.

The family had returned to the United States to farm near Cyrus, Minnesota but they often speak of the several years the family had lived in “good old Canada,” he said. “So, being born in 1908 and 1910, nothing slows them down in 2017.”
