Members of the Assiniboine beef and Multi 4-H Club enjoyed a fun day at the Rockford Hall on May 1, learning how to show their animals for their achievement day, which is scheduled for June 12 at the Maier family farm.

Goat club leaders Billiejoe Townsend and Fallyn Oxley helped organize the event.

“Grooming and showmanship was our topic of the day, learning the show ring guide lines,” said Townsend.

Members in attendance included: Olivia, Maggie and Elizabeth Ivanochko; Hudson, Isaiah and Levi Maier; Tess, Kate, Emma and Beau Covlin; Liam, Sawyer and Ross Townsend; Kendra and Haley Hueser; and Sam and Dawson Volpatti. Cindy Patterson came out to share her expertise in handling goats.

“For the beef portion of the day, we had Katie Wright from the Melfort area who is a beef 4-H member and is in her final year because she is 21 years of age. She led us through grooming, showmanship and how to work the show ring.”

Next on the agenda for the month of May is a visit to the Preeceville Personal Care Home where the members will be showcasing their baby animals. They will also be having a Critter Cluck and Duck sale on May 28 at the Preeceville Sportsgrounds.

The Assiniboine Beef and Multi 4-H Club has three categories: pre-clubbers, clover buds, and juniors. The three leaders are Dani Volpatti, Fallyn Oxley and Billie-Joe Townsend. Projects include: heifer, steer and goat projects. In the steer projects, members learn how to train, groom, show and sell their beef projects. Members with heifer projects can retain their animals as breeding projects. The goats can be dairy, meat or minis that members can retain, breed, or sell, depending on the project’s focus.
