A full field of 100 golfers spent two beautiful days competing at Yorkton’s Deer Park Golf Course this past weekend in the hopes of winning the 2015 Coors Light Two Person Scramble.

Golfers came from far and wide to play in the tournament, which boasted some of the best golf the course has seen in years. “This year was probably the best competition level that we’ve had in a long time,” said Deer Park’s Director of Golf Al Sauser, who also competed in the tournament. “We had a bunch of guys from Humboldt that came down who are good players and even the locals were top notch as far as playing ability goes.

“Even the weather was great for the tournament and I couldn’t be happier.”

In addition to the top quality weather and play, Sauser said that he believes the course itself was in the best shape he has ever seen it in, resulting in some very low scores over the two day event. “In my opinion, and I’ve been here for a few years now, it’s as good as I’ve ever seen it,” offered Sauser on the play of the course. “We’ve been pretty lucky because it’s been dry but we’ve been able to get rain at the right time and Leo the superintendent, he’s been doing an amazing job out here.”

Sauser then said that the Coors Light Scramble also provided the Deer Park personnel with some useful knowledge ahead of two of the year’s bigger tournaments: the Saskatchewan Junior Men’s and Women’s Championship (July 20-22) and the Canadian Junior Girls’ Championship (August 3-7). “We’ve got some big tournaments coming up here, so this tournament gave us a bit of an idea as to what we can expect from the course and how it will hold up,” mentioned Sauser, adding that he expects the course – and Deer Park staff - to be more than ready for what’s in store. “I think we’re (staff and course) ready for these tournaments and it should be some great golf.”
