Over 100 people came out on the first day of the Parkland Racing Association (PRA) stock car race season.
New PRA president Dustin Heddon had a good day, his first day on his new job.
"The new position went really good," he said at the end of the first day of racing.
Included in the winners' circle were Kelly Baber, who won both heats of the Thunderstock and Tyler Carter won the Features race.
Heddon said he's hoping to change things around a bit and make it more of a 'show'.
He served as the PRA vice president last year and says he "watched the presidents over the last year" and has ideas in mind for what he's hoping to do now that he is in charge.
"That's more what I'm committed to," he told the paper.
"I want more of a show out there."
You can't have a good show without a good sized crowd and that has already been taken care of judging by the turnout over the weekend for the first race.
"The turnout was awesome. You couldn't ask for a better turnout."
Carle Hiebert won the first heat of the Street Stock races and Dane Vessey won the second heat.
Mark Maga won the Street Stock features race and Tyler Rosenthal was tops in the Mechanics race.
Carolyn Heinrich won the Ladies race and Levi Wilcott was the winner of the Mini Car Demolition derby halftime show.
The next PRA race date is set for June 24 at the Yellowhead International Speedway at 2 p.m.
The track was still in the process of being put together and may need a few minor adjustments leading up to June 24. "We will be ready for it," says Heddon.
