The UCT Terrier hockey team was roughed up in their final home game of the regular season Thursday night as they hosted the Prairie Storm in Saskatchewan Bantam AA Hockey League action.
On the strength of a five-goal second period, the Prairie Storm pulled away with an 8-4 victory.
The teams traded goals in the opening period.
The goals coming less than two minutes apart from each other.
Keenan Laigt opened the scoring for the Prairie Storm and Chance Patterson replied shortly after to even the score at 1-1.
Patterson's goal came unassisted.
Laigt scored his second goal early in the second period with Jayden Halbgewachs getting assists on both goals.
Troy Murray put the Storm up 3-1 and Jared Regien added a fourth goal less than 30 seconds later.
Steven Ste. Marie scored at 13:48 to cut the lead in half to 4-2.
However Laigt's hat trick goal as well as a single from Halbgewachs put the game out of reach for the visitors.
Patterson would add his second of the game for Yorkton to round out the scoring and Grayson Neufeld would also tally. Ste. Marie, Josh Rohatynsky and Kylan Shea would get credit for assists in the game for Yorkton.
The Terriers played disciplined hockey, taking only three two-minute minor penalties.
According to the team, the playoff run starts on Feb. 25 at the Yorkton Kinsmen Arena at 8 p.m. The teams will head to Regina for a critical game 2 on Monday night, Feb. 27 and if necessary a third game goes Feb. 28.
