The Quizno's Subs Bantam Terriers skated to decisive wins during their playoff run, which translated to the team being named 'B' side champions in Major Hockey League playoffs.

Head coach Don Dzuba said it was a playoff run that they weren't even sure it was going to happen. They hadn't been getting a lot of players out consistently during the regular season.

However, when the playoffs came along, he told Yorkton This Week that the goal they had in mind was exactly what they accomplished-winning the 'B' side title.

It was a bit of a bumpy road that happened to go through Kamsack.

Kamsack had a very strong Bantam hockey team this year, notes Dzuba.

They took Yorkton to a third and deciding game, says Dzuba.

Yorkton would go on to a 2-0 shutout win. Bo Loster got credit in between the pipes for Yorkton, notes Dzuba.

"Bo really stood out," he said.

Ryan Merkl scored what turned out to be the winning goal only 30 seconds into the game, said Dzuba.

Brendan Dzuba tallied with 2:54 remaining in regulation time to seal the deal.

Coach Dzuba said it was nerve-wracking.

"A 1-0 score is not going to win the game," he told his players on the bench.

"It was a pretty decent game. End to end action," he told YTW.

The win gave Yorkton the title after the teams split the first two games of the series.

Kamsack won game one, 5-4. Yorkton evened it in game two, winning 7-4 and then Merkl and Dzuba made sure Yorkton won the biggest game, 2-0.

Dzuba had a pair of goals in each of the first two games. Merkl had one in the first game and Cody Doll had one in the first game.

Scoring in the second game saw Jorie Doll with two, Carter Flasch, Cody Doll and Ryvir Hine each with one.

Now that the season is done, coach Dzuba thanks "the kids for getting the job done".

Nobody thought we were going to get to where we got, he added.
