Beautiful weather on November 8 helped make a work bee a more pleasant experience for the staff, board members and volunteers at the Duck Mountain Ski Area.

The group spent the day helping to prepare the facility for the upcoming season and the fine weather allowed everyone to complete the outdoor tasks such as lift line cutting, machinery maintenance and lift maintenance in time before the snow falls.

Several volunteers worked on painting projects including preparing the rail slides for the Terrain Park that will be located in a new area this year, said Craig Brock, the manager. “We would like to thank everybody that came out to help.”

The tentative opening day for the ski area is December 19, weather permitting, he said. Season passes are now on sale at Sas-Kam Sportsman. Season pass forms are also available at the Kamsack Town Office and online at www.skitheduck.com.

Duck Mountain Ski Hill will be working closely with the Kamsack Ski Club to offer the Little Ducks program again this year. This learn-to-ski program is for beginner skiers ages five years and up. Volunteers interested in helping with the Little Ducks program may get in touch with Brock or other staff members at manager@skitheduck.com.

Skiing and snowboarding instructors are always welcome at the Duck and dates have been set for upcoming Level 1 instructors’ courses that will be offered in December, he said. “Anyone looking to become an instructor can email us for more information on the exact dates and locations of the courses.

“We are looking forward to a great 2015-2016 season and hope you will join us as soon as the snow flies. Keep watch for announcements about upcoming events and programs!”
