Bendfeld continues to pile on the points

After a lacklustre performance on Friday night, the YRHS senior girls basketball team bounced back the following day and won two games, "solid victories," suggests coach Tony Hayden.

Saskatchewan High School Athletics Association action continued for the senior Lady Raiders with two wins but it didn't get off to the greatest start.

Their opener was a 57-46 loss to the hands of Swift Current. Falling behind early and trailing by 12 points at halftime, the YRHS team was unable to shrink the lead and took the 11 point loss. Raelene Nagy had 14 points and 12 rebounds and Robyn Bendfeld had 12 points, 15 rebounds and five assists.

Game two on Saturday was a completely different story, says Hayden.

"as the Lady Raiders cruised to a 68-39 victory over the Weyburn Eagles. The 'bigs' got rolling as (Robyn) Bendfeld and (Raelene) Nagy had 21 and 19 points respectively while Morgan Sapara and Brandey Blahut chipped in with 10 each," Hayden explained.

Bendfeld also had 20 rebounds and five assists.

The final game was the third time matchup of the season between the Melville Cobras and the YRHS Raiders, he said.

"After dropping the first two meetings to the Cobras earlier, a solid defence and a strong game by Kaelyn Boyda off the bench enabled a 55-45 win."

Bendfeld again led the scorers with 16 and Nagy and Sapara added 12 points apiece. Bendfeld threw up 12 rebounds and Blahut had five assists in the win.

Hayden says the Raiders are now preparing for conference playoffs which will have them travel to Wilcox, Sk.
