The account of the first Madge Lake Walleye Cup that was held at Madge Lake on September 16 did not include mention of a Kamsack district team that did very well.
“I am genuinely sorry that someone felt a particular story was missed,” said James Turner, an organizer.
“In the tournament press release following an event, I don’t highlight the success of the ‘local teams’ versus everyone else, because it’s my job to be impartial,” Turner said. “I do, however, make the top local team the focus of the press release for the following year’s tournament.”
The account in the Times two weeks ago did not say that former Kamsack resident Vaughn Binkley of Greenwater Lake and his son-in-law Glen Becenko of Kamsack placed third in the competition.
“Their combined weight of 12.74 lbs. was just 1.23 lbs. out of first place,” Turner said. “Vaughn and Glen took home a cheque for $1,500, plus $100 in gift certificates from the Iron Grill Steakhouse as the top local team.”
