Canora Composite School Cougars have another success to their name, with the school’s senior girls volleyball team placing second in a tournament it hosted on October 28 and 29.

The girls played against teams from Cote First Nation, Esterhazy, Porcupine Plain, Sturgeon Lake, and Yorkton in a round robin tournament and placed second out of the six teams. Other teams and their placings included Sturgeon Lake School, first; Porcupine Plain Composite School, third; Yorkton Regional High School, fourth; Chief Gabriel Cote Education Complex, fifth; and Esterhazy High School, sixth.

Colin Knight, the coach of the volleyball team, said that the Cougars played exceptionally well and won almost all of their sets. They split with Porcupine Plain and Sturgeon Lake.

“Splitting with Sturgeon Lake was a sign that the Cougars have developed well this season and adapted to different levels and styles of play,” Knight said.

The team also held a raffle with two prize baskets for spectators to win. The winner of both baskets was Cheyenne Pelly. Proceeds from the raffle will go towards supporting Canora Composite School’s volleyball program.
