Canora Minor Hockey teams gain four wins and five losses in home and visitor games

Canora hockey players compete at weekend games

            The Canora Minor Hockey League’s season picked up speed when six games were played over the weekend and three games were played out of Canora the week before.

            The Canora Novice Red team played its first game on November 16 at the Preeceville Skating Area. The team lost 19-1 against the Preeceville Novice Pats, which is known to be a difficult team.

            “The team showed incredible improvement by the end of the third period. The players never gave up,” said Nicole Korpusik, the head coach.

            The Canora Novice Red team is coached by Korpusik and Greg Smith, the assistant coach. Genevieve Shukin is the team’s manager.

            The team’s players consist of Colton Bletsky, Cayden Kelly, Jhett Kelly, Natalia Kelly, Jack Korpusik, Westin Lindgren, Ayden Lukey, Gabrielle Marcischuk-Butler, Kaelyn Shukin, Cale Smith and Kale Strelioff.

            The Canora team’s only goal was made in the third period by Kale Strelioff. Colton Bletsky made the assist. Korpusik said the players are excited about the upcoming games.

            The Canora Atom Cobras Red team played its first game at the Kinsmen Arena in Yorkton. The team played its November 17 game against the Yorkton Richardson Atom Terriers in a tight match where the Cobras lost 6-4.

            Three goals were made by Wyatt Wolkowski, while one was made by Nate Wolos. Hunter Lamb assisted on one of Wolkowski’s goals.

            The Canora Atom Cobras Red team consists of Jessee Kopelchuk, Rhett Ludba, Chase Fountain, Bronson Heshka, Nate Wolos, Connor Kraynick, Rylan Bletsky, Hunter Lamb and Porter Wolkowski. The team also plays with some members of the Canora Atom Cobras Black team, including Wyatt Wolkowski, Colton Bletsky and Cooper Kraynick. The team’s coach is Colby Wolkowski, the assistant coaches are Kevin Ludba and Rob Bletsky and the manager is Tracey Bletsky.

            The team played its second game on November 25 at the Canora Civic Centre against the Cote Atom Chiefs, who defeated the team 4-1. The goal for the Canora Atom Cobras Red was made by Hunter Lamb.

            The team went on to play its third game on November 27 at the Broda Sportsplex in Kamsack. The team played against the Kamsack Atom Flyers and lost 5-1. Canora’s single goal was made by Wyatt Wolkowski.

            The Canora Novice Black team proved that the members were planning to work hard this season by destroying the Kamsack Novice Flyers in the team’s second game with a score of 22-3. The game was played November 19 at the Broda Sportsplex.

            Goals were made by Linden Roebuck (six), Kayden Harder (two), Chase Hembling (10), Tucker Mydonick (four), Cooper Kraynick and Wyatt Wolkowski. Assists were by Wyatt Wolkowski (two), Kayden Harder (three), Cooper Kraynick, Miah Ruf and Linden Roebuck.

            The team then won its third game against the Langenburg Novice Warriors on November 26 at the Canora Civic Centre. The team made 17 goals to beat out Langenburg’s four.

            Goals were made by Chase Hembling (nine), Wyatt Wolkowski (seven) and Kayden Harder.

            The Canora Atom Cobras Black team made an impression with its first game of the season when it defeated the Kamsack Atom Flyers. The November 25 game at the Broda Sportsplex ended with the Canora team gaining 15 points and the Kamsack team gaining two.

            The team’s coach is Matthew Wilgosh, assistant coaches are Kevin Ebert, Shawn Sleeva and Kurtis Shukin, and the manager is Jennifer Sleeva. Team members are Briel Beblow, Ethan Moses Bryant, Keegan Dyck, Carson Ebert, Brody Gulka, Alaina Roebuck, Kade Rubletz, Taye Shukin and Ty Sleeva.

            The team also has four members from the Canora Atom Cobras Black team who join the team for games. They are Katherine Hauber, Chase Hembling, Linden Roebuck and Logan Sznerch.

            Goals at the November 25 game were made by Briel Beblow (six), Taye Shukin (two), Keegan Dyck, Ty Sleeva and Brody Gulka. Ty Sleeva also made two assists.

            The Canora Peewee Cobras had a busy weekend by playing two games on November 26 and 27. The game on November 26 at the Canora Civic Centre was against the Preeceville Peewee Pats. The game ended in a 10-1 loss with Taye Shukin scoring the only gold.

            “It was a hard first period,” said Genevieve Shukin, spokesperson with the Canora Minor Hockey League, adding that the team’s goalie, Cole Marcinkoski, faced over 50 shots towards his net.

            The players managed to improve for their next game against the Churchbridge Peewee Imperials, who they defeated 7-2. Goals were made by Rylen Lukey, Jake Statchuk (three), Logan Lewchuk, Carson Ebert and Taye Shukin. Assists were by Mathew Dmitruik, Taye Shukin and Rylen Lukey.

            Upcoming home games for the teams include a game on December 11 for the Canora Atom Cobras Red team against the Yorkton Richardson Atom Terriers.
