Canora Soccer Club members decided to celebrate Father’s Day with a weekend father-child game and barbecue that members hope will become an annual tradition.

Players for the Canora Soccer Club’s major, mini, and mini-mite teams were encouraged to invite fathers, grandfathers, and any other family members that they wanted to enjoy a soccer game with on June 18. The major and mini teams played one game, while the mini-mites played the other. After the excitement, families were invited to enjoy a free lunch provided by the club.

Candace Doogan was an organizer of the event, and she said she was glad to see the parents come out for a relaxing afternoon. Though some fathers worried they wouldn’t survive all the action, they still had fun coming up with unique team names and cheers.

Doogan hopes the Father’s Day soccer game becomes an annual event that will return next year.
