Only catching a piece of the ball, Travis Mentanko had everyone looking way up when he was batting for the Canora Supers which were playing host to Yorkton Yankees on June 18.

The Canora Supers suffered a disappointing 7-0 loss to the Yorkton Yankees when they played the last home game of the regular season on Thursday.

The loss puts Canora in about the middle of the pack with a record of five wins and five losses in South East Senior Baseball League action, said Greg Andrychuk, player coach.

The Supers started the season strong with three wins, but a lack of consistency in the hitting and pitching departments has taken a toll, he said.

In Thursday’s game, Travis Fogg had a rough start pitching for the Supers, Andrychuk said. The Yankees scored four runs in the first inning. Fogg composed himself and was able to pitch the
first four innings, and “he kept us in the game.” Derek Palagian came in for the last two innings, during which he allowed only one run.

It was on the hitting side that the Supers experienced the most problems, the coach said. Matt Poier pitched the whole game for the Yankees and “the Supers’ bats just couldn’t figure him out.”

After recording a hit, Tannum Wyonzek was running for fi rst as fast as he could, but he didn’t beat the ball. His was the last out of the game as the Supers lost 7-0 to the Yorkton Yankees. games left (including Monday’s game in Langenburg) in the regular season and they are all to be played on the road, said Andrychuk.

On Thursday, the Supers will be travelling to Roblin to play the West Parkland Stars.

On Sunday the Supers play in Swan River and on the next day, the regular season will conclude with a trip to Yorkton to play the Parkland Padres.

The week of July 1-7 has been scheduled as “rain out week.” During this week, all the teams are to play makeup games. After that, the league playoffs begin. From 10 to 12 players
have been showing up for all the Supers’ games, but because of work and other commitments, the Supers have had to play a few games without some of their top players, Andrychuk said.

However, in this final leg of the regular season it is important for more Supers to participate, he said. To take part in the league finals, each player must have played at least four games in the regular season. There are several registered Supers that must play in these final games to be eligible for the playoffs.
