Canucks will self destruct in LA

It would be understandable if whoever it was that made that tweet that appeared shortly after the Kings beat the Canucks last Thursday night, did it out of humour.

It would be understandable if whoever it was that made that tweet that appeared shortly after the Kings beat the Canucks last Thursday night, did it out of humour.

On first glance, it was kind of funny that someone would say something like that on online media; it shows that someone, likely in southern California has a pretty good sense of humour.

Given what happened in the city that the Kings are matched up against in the opening round of the NHL playoffs, it is pretty funny.

One might argue that it's just a tad premature. Maybe completely premature.

The Vancouver Canucks should need absolutely nothing to get fuelled up for this playoff series.

Considering how their opening round last year went against the Chicago Blackhawks and the or two little flaws that they currently have in their lineup right now.

Goaltender Roberto Luongo not being quite as sharp, or Henrik Sedin being out of the first couple games with concussion symptoms). Vancouver shouldn't nee any more motivation to try and eliminate the Kings.

They have some now. Someone from the Kings communication departments used their Twitter account to say the following: To everybody in Canada outside of BC, you're welcome!

Maybe someone was just having some fun with the idea that everybody around here generally dislikes the Canucks because of what happened during the Game 7 loss to Boston last year?

Maybe if this was the regular season, everybody would look at it as funny, but in the playoffs, one guy apparently thinks it's funny, the rest see it as something that has no place in the Stanley Cup playoffs. "As players, we're all smart enough to know bulletin board material at this time of the year is not a good idea,"

Kings captain Dustin Brown said. "Maybe someone who is control of the Twitter feed needs to understand that as well."

Defenceman Drew Doughty admitted the line was "kind of funny" but said: "I don't know if we should be saying that at this point, after winning one game."

No kidding.

If Los Angeles wins the series, then it'll be fair game.

If they win the next game, especially if it happens to be a blowout, the Canucks are one of those teams who probably can't afford to go down two games at this time of year.

The Canucks, however, are facing uncharted territory.

Last year, they were the ones who looked like they were playing in cruise control. They went up 3-1.

Yet they still ended up playing Game 7.

This year, maybe it will be reversed. Just like how the Penguins lead by 2 goals early in Games 1-3. Maybe in Game 4 they will spot Philadelphia an early lead and Pittsburgh will be the team to come back. However, according to SportsCentre, 3 guys got suspended for the gong show that took place Sunday at Corestates Centre.

Last year's team didn't trail in a series until finally watching its Stanley Cup hopes disappear in the seventh game of the final round. They had won eight consecutive series openers.
