Yorkton played in Canora last Wednesday night to close out the Supers' regular season.

Canora belted a home run early on but Yorkton responded with a pair of runs to earn a 2-1 victory at the Al Sapieha Field Wednesday night.

The win, followed by a 9-4 loss at Langenburg the following night, put the Cardinals' record at 5-7 which has them sitting in fifth place in the South East Senior Baseball League standings heading into last weekend.

The Cards have one game left on their schedule, a rescheduled matchup from an earlier date in Swan River, MB. However due to the newspaper's press time, results were not available in time to print.

A win for Yorkton and they could jump above the Melville Bison and Langenburg Indians, both deadlocked at 12 points going into the Yorkton/Swan River game.

The Cardinals finish the season on the road with Swan River last night and a trip to Canora last Wednesday, a 2-1 Yorkton win, one of the team's lowest-scoring affairs this season.

The wind played a factor but not to anybody's advantage insists head coach Cliff Leschyshyn.

"We'll take the win. "It's our lowest (win margin). It was fun to watch, a good pitcher's duel" he said as Cardinal righty Colby Parachoniak went up against Derek Palagian.

The game also produced a home run. Jaden Hawryluk and Jason Blommaert crossed the plate to score the Yorkton runs. Arron Yeroschak hit an RBI to score Blommaert.

The win was followed by a defeat the following evening as the Cardinals continued what became a three-game road trip, taking them to Canora, Langenburg the next day and the season finale scheduled for last night in Swan River. The Cards' luck did not continue July 5 when they played the Langenburg Indians and lost by a 9-4 final.

The win at Canora and the Langenburg loss has the birds sitting at 5-7-1 going into the season closer at Swan River.

A victory in that game would see them jump over the Bison and the Indians and likely see them finish in fourth place overall in the league, however the team wasn't sure if they would be making the trip.
